David Balhuizen was born in Amsterdam and received his BA in photography at the Royal College of Art in The Hague. After working with the best in Dutch advertising he decided to move to London. With his recent success in Londons most prestigious AOP-Awards/2009 he has put his latest personal projects to the forefront. These images are from his Tokyo series, addressing the difficult task for Japan of reconstructing itself on its cultural and historical roots whilst Western influences are more deeply felt. Far from the typical images of a high-tech society or a traditional Japan, David Balhuizen’s rigorist framework and earth-toned perspectives exacerbate the loss of an identifying trait.
